Versatile ETP Light

If you’re looking for a rechargeable flashlight that you can easily stick in your pocket to have on hand wherever you go, the Olight Arkpro Ultra Pro might have caught your attention. This ETP (easy-to-pack), multifunction flashlight that fits easily into a pocket or backpack. The problem with most ETP flashlights is that they aren’t bright enough, and battery power can run out quickly, which is never a good thing when you’re camping.

But the neat thing about the Olight Arkpro Ultra Pro flashlight that it replaces a bunch of tools that you might need in everyday life. Examples are flood and focused light options and brightness that ranges from just enough to see where you’re going as well as a nearly daylight level flood option. It also has an ultra-violet option and a laser pointer, which could come in handy for certain users. In this article, we’ll unpack everything you need to know about this pocket-sized flashlight and I’ll offer my opinion about its functionality and design.

What’s In The Box?

The Olight Arkpro Ultra Pro flashlight comes neatly packed in a robustly stylish cardboard box. The packaging is a nice touch, one that’s to be expected at its $129.99 USD price point. Sliding the top of the box back, I found:

  • An Olight Arkpro Ultra Pro Flashlight
  • A magnetic charging cable
  • Instructions that include all functions and how to use the light

Design And Construction

The Olight Arkpro Ultra sleek, flat design makes it perfect for slipping into a pocket, so you can take it everywhere with you. I love that the case is made of a proprietary aluminum, instead of the plastic used for more flashlight cases. This is a big plus for 3 reasons:

  • More environmentally friendly
  • Lightweight
  • Improved drop-resistance

Olight offers the Arkpro Ultra in your choice of 8 different colors: I chose green- a laid-back khaki tone in keeping with my lifestyle and wardrobe. However, I could have chosen:

  • Phantom Squadron CW
  • Matte Black CW
  • Orange CW
  • OD Green CW
  • Phantom Squadron CW
  • Silver Graphite CW
  • Matte Black NW
  • Matte Black CW Lightning Edition

The top of the case has a round disk with a backlight light that lets you know battery levels and a function selector with a central button to change levels. It’s IP7 rated, so it will withstand most scenarios we run into camping.

Features and Specifications

The Olight Arkpro Ultra is designed to be a space saving multi-functional flashlight. With that in mind, it’s capable of replacing a number of lights when you’re camping. While the focused beam in either moonlight or turbo mode is great for night time navigation, the turbo flood light is perfect for providing temporary daylight level lighting in a tent or at a campsite, but could also be used in moonlight mode for longer lasting light.

The Arkpro Ultra also comes with some other neat features, although they’re ones that I’ll probably never use in a practical sense. One of these is the strobe light. Strobe lights are primarily used for: for self-defense to temporarily disorient attackers, emergency signaling for rescue, and increasing visibility for safety. Aside from being fun to have, the ultra violet light would be great for detecting pet stains or pest infestations (such as scorpions), seeing how well cleaned a hotel room is or curing UV adhesives.

In addition, there’s a long distance green pointer beam that would be great to have for signalling in an emergency. BTW, the green colour is  5–7 times brighter to the human eye than other colors,

  • Moonlight
  • Turbo
  • 1700 Lumen Flood
  • 800 Lumen Spot light
  • Strobe Light
  • Ultraviolet
  • Laser Pointer

Battery and Charging Time

The Arkpro Ultra uses a a non-user-serviceable, built-in 2,000 mAh pouch battery, making direct battery replacement by the user impossible. However, this battery is designed to last more than 500 charging cycles and is covered under Olight’s lifetime warranty.

The ArkPro Ultra offers both magnetic charging as well as a more standard USB-C charging port on the side It charges to full charge in 3 hours using the magnetic charging cable that attaches to its back end. If you’re in a hurry there’s also a side USB-C port that allows for faster charging-90 minutes.

Functionality

The Olight ArkPro Ultra has a round, concave button on the top that features green lights that provide enough light to see what you’re doing as well as indicating the level of battery charge. It’s pretty easy to operate, turn the dial that rotates around the button to set flood, moonlight, or ultraviolet light. Then click the button once for bright light, twice for turbo, or 3 times for strobe. A separate button on the side of the light controls the green laser pointer.

I was truly amazed by the power of this tiny flashlight. The moonlight function is just enough to light the way when my dogs have to go out after dark, but it’s not so bright that it will annoy the neighbours. On the other hand, the turbo function provides near daylight level brightness in either mode. In flood turbo the Arkpro Ultra could certainly sub in for a camping lantern in (and maybe out of) the tent.

Another neat feature about this light is its two-way clip that enables it to attach onto a pocket, or on the brim of a hat as a headlamp when your hands are full. This gives it a versatility few other lights have

Is It Worth The Money?

  • With a price tag of 129.99 USD, the ArkPro Ultra is definitely not cheap. However, it’s a top of the line flashlight that’s versatile enough to be used in a multitude of ways. Notably, it can replace several other camping lights. With that said,, the ArkPro Ultra packs a lot of value into a flat, easy to carry and pack size. On top of that, It has environmentally friendly features that make it better for the planet any other ETP light I’ve seen. This smart little light packs a lot of value for the price.
